David Beckham announced at a press release that he had decided to resign as England captain after almost six years, but he wanted to continue his international career. Chelsea's John Terry is the first favourite to become the new England captain, but Liverpool's skipper Steven Gerrard might take the role, too. Beckham was assigned captain by manager Peter Taylor in 2000.
